Know Your Hair Type Deeply-

Hair Porosity and Density

Hair porosity means the ability of hair to absorb and take in moisture and retain it for a long. It is of 3 types:

  • Low porosity hair- It has tightly closed cuticles, making it hard to hold moisture.
  • High porosity hair- Has large gaps in cuticles, making it easy to absorb moisture and also retain it for a longer period.
  • Medium porosity hair- It balances between two and needs less maintenance in case of nourishment.

Hair density basically means how many individual hair strands are present per square inch of scalp. It also have 3 types:

  • High-density hair- They look fuller and thicker
  • Medium-density hair- They look sparse
  • Low-density hair- They fall somewhere in between

Knowing these both helps with understanding what products you need to maintain adequate moisture for your hairs and whether the product weighs your hair down or not, as if you already have low density hairs, it be ironical to use something that makes the volume look more less.

  1. Straight- Soft, thin, and entirely straight
  1. Wavy- Loose, barely-there waves
  1. Curly- Large, loose curls
  1. Coily- Tightly coiled, springy curls

Understanding this classification gives you a knowledge and idea about what products you need to enhance the already natural type of your hair. Example- If you have curly hairs, applying a product that will enhance those curls will definitely help with your hair looking more fuller and healthy.

Know Your Products-

Scalp Health

If you dream of healthy, strong and shiny hairs, focus on your scalp health, as it is the key to getting those beautiful locks.

If you have oily scalp, a clarifying shampoo can help with removing excess oil and buildup. This will lead to less oil buildup in your scalp thus less need of hair wash, leading to improved scalp health.

If you have sensitive and thin follicle scalp, avoid products with sulfates in it, as they will be too harsh for your scalp.

For dry scalps, products with ingredients like glycerin and shea butter could provide needed hydration and moisture.

Moisturize and Strengthen

If you have dry and frizzy hairs, products with ingredients like argan oil and sunflower seed oil could help with locking in moisture and reduce the frizz.

Products with ingredients like keratin and pro-vitamin B5 are best to use when you have brittle or damaged hair.

For color treated hairs, avoid any product with harsh chemicals and sulfates in it, as they can lead to fading and damaging of hairs.
